Jury Comments - This is a very sensitive restoration and you can tell it was a labor of love for the architect. There was a lot of research about what were the original colors, a way to handle the HVAC system that would integrate more seamlessly, and there was the structural and the ornament. It’s very well considered and very, very lovely. These types of restoration projects are somewhat hard to judge within the context of what constituents a successful project. In the case of really well excecuted restoration projects the degree to which the hand of the architect is missed is a measure of its success. We look at the resolution of this project, knowing how hard it is to integrate the full range of mechanical and electrical systems into older buildings, and here they do it so seamlessly well.
