- It’s great to see a multi-family project that integrated into a complex urban environment both in its infrastructure, a rail line, a highway, a large parking garage that was mandated by the client, and yet trying to improve the urban experience of that major street that it sits on and taking a traditional housing typology of the courtyard and adapting it, leaving it open a little bit to bring in light and air as well as movement. Clearly it’s a very difficult project given the scale that they were given, the way in which the materials and fenestration were handled, but more importantly the way in which the project integrates a mixed use of ground floor retail to create a much more lively street scape than many residential projects (and that could be to a degree its site and program). It’s also nice the way in which the architect used the residential program to layer the garage, so that the garage wasn’t simply handled as an appendage attached to the residences, but the residential program wraps around them to create a more uniform streetscape, concealing the garage by creating a linear screening element.
