The Design Awards Program
The AIA Maryland Design Awards competition occurs each year in July, with recognition of winning built and unbuilt projects at the Design Awards program in September. AIA Maryland celebrates the design accomplishments of architects in Maryland with this annual event. The program is open to individual members and firms whose principals are members of AIA Maryland and honors designs in a variety of categories. The Design Awards program aims to encourage and recognize distinguished architectural achievement and focus public attention on the Architect's role in shaping the quality of life through design excellence.

AIA Maryland Celebrates Design Excellence at its Annual Awards Gala

Members and their clients, architectural students and professors, along with their colleagues gathered on September 2nd at the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus to recognize the outstanding architectural achievements of AIA members and architectural students. The award-winning projects were selected from a field of 138 professional entries submitted by 57 firms representing AIA members across Maryland, Virginia and DC.  Additionally, graduate and undergraduate students from Morgan State University and the University of Maryland were recognized for award.  With the introduction of a new community college student drawing competition this year, the jury bestowed three additional awards to students enrolled in Anne Arundel Community College and Montgomery College.  Jury Chair Dean Sakamoto, FAIA, assisted by Eileen English, AIA, AIAMD President, presented thirty firm awards and eight student awards for their outstanding design. AIA Maryland wishes to thank all participants for their contributions to this annual program.
