IDP Info
Intern Development Program (IDP) The National Council of Architecture Registration Boards (NCARB) is responsible for establishing, interpreting and enforcing the
Intern Development Program (IDP) and architecture training requirements. The objective of IDP is to fill the gap between academic instruction and licensed practiced. The IDP training requirement establishes levels
of training in important areas of architectural practice. The AIA web site offers a number of resource highlights and information to assist AIA Associate members and interns in their continuing education. For additional information about IDP training requirements and NCARB Council Record application procedures, visit the NCARB web site.

IDP Outstanding Firm Awards Program
Since 1991, the IDPAC has recognized firms from across the country who actively embrace the Intern Development Program and demonstrate their commitment by making the path to
licensure an integral part of the firm’s culture through the IDP Outstanding Firm Awards program. In 2008, the program is expanded to recognize IDP Firms that meet twelve essential
criteria in the categories of Mentoring, Supervising, Training Opportunities, Commitment to IDP, and ARE Support. The IDP Outstanding Firm Award will be reserved for firms who meet
the essential criteria and demonstrate excellence in at least three of these categories.

Emerging Professionals Companion: An Online Resource Developed by AIA and NCARB, The Emerging Professionals Companion (EPC) is an online
resource for emerging professionals that supports the intern in the IDP process, particularly in gaining credit. The EPC is updated for current practice models and expanded to include the
varied paths that an intern or licensed architect may consider during his or her career in architecture. Designed to increase support, involvement, and mentoring of firms, supervisors
and mentors, all members of the profession can participate in learning opportunities provided by the EPC. The EPC is free. Sign up and learn more!
