Membership Information
Classes of Membership & Dues Architects who are legal residents of Maryland, and have been licensed and
registered by any state, the District of Columbia, or any US Territory, may become Members of The American Institute of Architects, AIA Maryland, and the local chapter within whose territory they live or work.
Associate Members Persons without architectural licenses under the supervision of a licensed architect in a
professional or technical capacity directly related to the practice of architecture, or persons employed in circumstances recognized by licensing authorities as constituting credit toward architectural registration
may become an Associate Member of The American Institute of Architects, AIA Maryland, and the local chapter within whose territory they live.
Emeritus Membership Any AIA Member who has maintained membership for 15 years and has reached the age of 70, or
has reached the age of 60 and is retired, or is incapacitated so as to be unable to work in the profession may become an Emeritus Member of The American Institute of Architects, AIA Maryland, and the local chapter
within whose territory they live.
Fellowship (FAIA) Members can be nominated for Fellowship by their local chapter, state association, 10
individual members nationwide, or by 5 Fellows of the nominee’s chapter or state association after the member has completed 10 cumulative years of AIA membership.
