Jury Comments - We appreciate the proportion of the house and a smaller footprint on the site and operating in the front courtyard and back defined outdoor rooms with the house that kind of simple form inbetween the private and public realm. The way the windows become subtracted from the solid volume and the distinction between the way it’s done in the front and the way it’s done in the back is quite successful. In general, the architect has done a very elegant little house. For as simple and straightforward as the cubic volume of the house is, the way in which it relates to the landscape is really quite wonderful. A lot of times, a project of this type might initially strike an observer as a kind of austere object that has nothing to do with landscape and context. The more you look at this project, the more you realize that the relationship of outdoor spaces to the house itself is really quite strong.
