How to become politically active...
STEP ONE: Know who your legislators are!
After you have identified your Legislative District, you can look up contact information (mailing address & phone number), as well as basic biographical information. For the Senate CLICK HERE and for the House of Delegates CLICK HERE
STEP TWO: Find out more about the issues!
Throughout the legislative session (mid-January to mid-April), AIA Maryland will send
letters, faxes, and emails to members on a regular basis to keep members informed about hot issues and bills that will affect the way they do business. Specific bill numbers will be included in those legislative
updates. To learn more about a particular bill, GO HERE and enter the Bill number.
STEP THREE: Compose your letter, fax, e-mail or voice communication!
If you have taken the time to learn about the issues (see step two above), this step should be EASY.
STEP FOUR: Contact your Legislator(s)!
After you have learned, and feel comfortable with, the issue(s), take some time to CONTACT
your legislators and let them know how you feel about a particular issue. Nothing has more impact than an INDIVIDUALLY WRITTEN and composed, issue-specific letter, fax or e-mail from a constituent!
- The most powerful way to reach your legislator is by arranging an appointment and talking face-to-face! If your time does not permit that, identify the mailing addresses of your
Legislator(s) and send them a letter!
- The second most powerful way to contact your legislator is by phone or fax. Get this information from step one above!
- To send an E-mail to your legislator, GO HERE! Note, however, that many legislators have
"auto-responders" to answer your e-mail, and while this, on the surface at least, is the quickest way to contact your legislator(s), this method does not have the impact of a personally written letter
or fax.
The leadership of AIA Maryland would like to personally thank all members who take the time to preserve and protect the practice of architecture in
Maryland through involvement in the political process... your involvement IS important!
