2014 Excellence in Design Awards

AIA Maryland Excellence in Design Awards 2014

AIA Maryland Celebrates Excellence in Design at Annual Awards Celebration
Members and their clients, architectural students and professors, along with their colleagues gathered on September 10th at the Silver Spring Civic Building in Silver Spring to recognize the outstanding architectural achievements of AIA members and architectural students. The 22 award-winning projects were selected from a field of 122 professional entries submitted by 46 firms representing AIA members across Maryland, DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York. Forty-five submissions were received in the student awards program. The jury bestowed design awards to three architectural students from Morgan State University.  Jason Winters, AIA, President, presented the awards to the students, architects, building owners, and general contractors for their outstanding design. Additionally, two special awards were conferred during the celebratory evening.  Daniel Bailey, AIA, Immediate Past President, presented a Public Service Award to Jerome Klasmeier, Assistant Comptroller of Maryland, for his collaborative work with architects on state procurement policies.  Honored as well with AIA Maryland’s inaugural Distinguished Educator of the Year Award was Randy Steiner, AIA, Professor and Coordinator of Architecture at Montgomery College.

AIA Maryland wishes to thank all participants for their contributions to this annual program.

About AIA Maryland Design Awards

The AIA Maryland Design Awards program recognizes excellence in architectural design by AIA Maryland architects worldwide and for AIA member work in Maryland. Built and unbuilt projects submitted by AIA members are judged on their merit by a distinguished jury of AIA architects. The annual AIA Maryland Design Awards program provides member architects an avenue for peer recognition and honors the architects, clients, and consultants who work together to improve the built environment. With this program AIA Maryland hopes to encourage and recognize distinguished architectural achievement and raise public consciousness of the Architect’s role in shaping the quality of life through design excellence in the community.
