Throughout his career, Arthur F. Smith, FAIA, has been passionate about design excellence. His ability to creatively solve complex issues with innovation has resulted in more than 30 design honors and awards, including regional and national landmarks such as the Lawrence Tech University Taubman Student Services Center, Detroit Lions Training Facility; Regent Court; the Steel House; E-Port, a 1.2 million sf office and retail renovation in Chicago; and the $100 million renovation of General Motors’ Research and Development Facilities originally designed by Eero Saarinen.   Full Bio

Jack is a principal and lead designer with Harley Ellis Devereaux. Over the last 30 years working both for HED and Neumann Smith Associates he has explored architecture’s power to promote a mission, build communities and enrich lives. His work spans a broad range of types and scales. Recent work includes a Robotics Institute at the University of Michigan and the Mechanical Engineering Building at the University of Illinois. He has also held the lead design role on a number of projects within the Science and Technology studio including a new 225,000 sf Research and Development Center for the Robert Bosch Corporation in Michigan. Some of the more unique projects in past years include the Rouge Visitor Center, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and the Bell Tower at Saginaw Valley State University.   Full Bio

Tamara E. L. Burns, AIA, LEED AP, is co-founder and principal of Hopkins Burns Design Studio which specializes in the preservation, restoration and adaptive reuse of existing buildings and in the design of new places in downtown neighborhoods that are context sensitive and respectful of heritage. Ms. Burns has over 28 years of leadership and management experience providing design services for a variety of structures (new, existing and historic) and projects, including mixed use, commercial, residential, retail, laboratory renovations, world headquarters facilities and community master planning. As Principal, she ensures the delivery of innovative, sensitive and timely design solutions and that new places are sensitively woven into the context of communities.   Full Bio

Associate and Strategic Senior Interior Designer

Alexis Kim is an Associate and Strategic Senior Interior Designer with SmithGroupJJR. With almost 20 years of practicing interior architecture and design in firms such as SHW Group, Gensler and NBBJ across the United States, she has touched on a wide range of commercial project types, blurring the line between architecture & interior.  Her most recent practice in Education Design focused on creating inspiring & holistic learning environments through research-based design philosophy.  Alexis has built and led interior design group at a firm-wide level at SHW Group, leading design of numerous projects, including Mary Idema Pew Learning Commons for Grand Valley State University and Western Michigan University’s New Sangren Hall, which she received the Crystal Vision Award for her work.  She firmly believes in collaborative design process and thrives in analyzing client’s needs, investigating innovative solutions and bringing together the client’s goals and aspirations through design solution that is of the highest quality and one that transpires inside and out.   Full Bio

Constantine George Pappas AIA Architecture/Planning | Royal Oak, MI

Mr. Pappas is the founding principal of Constantine George Pappas AIA Architecture/Planning.  Founded in 1982, the firm specializes in high quality projects including masterplanning and the design of Religious and Institutional work through the Midwest.  Mr. Pappas’ design excellence has earned spots in many international, national and local architectural magazines.  The design excellence of the firm continues with numerous AIA National, AIA Michigan, AIA Detroit, Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) and the Masonry Institute of Michigan Honor Design Awards.  The firm has won thirty-six (36) design awards from various institutes and construction organizations. Mr. Pappas is a continuing adjunct faculty thesis design juror and lecturer at Michigan’s three Schools of Architecture.   Full Bio
