The Center wins top prize for Public Building of the Year at Excellence in Design Awards Celebration

October 2, 2017, Annapolis, MD – The 2017 Excellence in Design Awards Celebration took place at Greencourt Innovation Center in Rockville last week. AIA Maryland members and others were recognized by a distinguished jury from AIA Portland for “an incredible body of work”.

Ziger/Snead Architects was awarded the Public Building of the Year for their project, The Center. This project successfully transformed a vacant, historic theater into a mixed-use commercial space in the Station North Arts & Entertainment district of Baltimore.

Top honors also went to Uekman Architects, LLC, Beatty Harvey Coco Associates Architects, Ayers Saint Gross and Gensler for their great design work on projects spanning residential, commercial, institutional and interior architecture. Student Design Awards were given to two students from Maryland, Zachary Souders and Daniel Reynolds and, People’s Choice Awards went to CallisonRTKL, Inc., Design Collective, Inc. and, GriD Archcitects.

We were very pleased to have 122 projects submitted by 56 firms. Our jury recognized 20 outstanding submissions.
