Credible Pros

Just as architects, designers, and many professionals use credentials to signify proficiency, photography has its own set of endorsements. Obviously, photography doesn’t require a license; however, there are degrees and certifications that attest to knowledge and ability.

Professional Photographers of America is the world’s largest nonprofit association for working photographers. Founded in 1869, the association has nearly 30,000 members. PPA grants several degrees honoring various areas of expertise and accomplishment. For example, the Master of Photography (M.Photog.) is awarded for demonstration of superior photographic skills and the Photographic Craftsman (Cr.Photog.) signifies service as an educator.

In addition, the Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) credential affirms a base of knowledge and experience by practitioners.

PPA degrees and certification are earned through a combination of practical experience, image competition, education, testing, and portfolio submission. They attest to the knowledge, skill, and continuous improvement of professional photographers.
