Grimm + Parker Architects affirms commitment to research and evidence-based design; appoints Bill Bradley, PhD, as Director of Research + Development

July 25, 2016

“Evidence-based design uses research to provide owners and operators with the data they need to make well-informed decisions that can be defended at the next level,” says Dr. Bradley, educational planner and former Assistant Professor of Research. “It’s not a new concept, but few firms approach design in this manner. Grimm + Parker is establishing a new paradigm, and I’m excited to be part of it!”

“As an industry leader in both service and design we are committed to continuous improvement.” notes John Hill, CEO of Grimm + Parker. “Investing in research is the next logical step toward improving our business while at the same time distinguishing our company from others.”

“Our clients are seeking an authentic experience with architects who understand their challenges and can lend a unique, well-informed perspective to the conversation.” adds Melanie Hennigan, President of Grimm + Parker, ” To truly be effective, planners and designers have to draw upon a knowledge base that’s both deep and wide.”

Dr. Bradley brings nearly 20 years as a planner and designer, multiple awards for facility planning, and hands-on experience as an educator to his new role as the firm’s Director of Research and Development. His background informs his approach to research, “I’m always trying to discover opportunities at intersections. How can architecture, for example, be leveraged to enhance teaching and learning? How can it improve the human experience and what evidence is there of that?”

Dr. Bradley has been recognized as the Association for Learning Environments’ Virginia Planner of the Year, the Southeast Region Planner of the Year, and has helped lead A4LE (formerly CEFPI) as president of both the State chapter and the Region. He has recently been elected to a three-year term on the International Board of Directors. He has served as a managing principal operating and leading a studio while providing planning and design services to a broad range of clients in Virginia and across the southeastern United States.

While on faculty at the University of Virginia Dr. Bradley assisted in the direction of the Thomas Jefferson Center for Educational Design, an interdisciplinary research consortium aimed at understanding the impacts of multiple fields on education. He was recognized as the Outstanding Doctoral Student in the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia, an award given to the top graduate as determined by the faculty.

We are excited to welcome Bill on board!
