Student Design Awards 2017

The purpose of the Student Design Awards program is to recognize excellence in architectural design, promote architecture in the State of Maryland and to build a relationship between AIA Maryland and the academic community. This program is part of the annual AIA Maryland Excellence in Design awards program.

Eligibility is limited to students enrolled in an architectural program at a community college, college, or university in Maryland, or residents of Maryland enrolled in architectural programs located elsewhere during the 2016-2017 school year. Faculty sponsorship is required for all submissions. Participation is open to all eligible students at no charge. Students may enter projects as a individual entry or team entry without limit. Six $500 cash prize awards may be granted to the recipients of winning projects.

Submission Categories:

  • Community College Students − Hand Delineation &  Design Project
  • Undergraduate − Beginning Design & Upper Level Design
  • Graduates − Beginning Design & Upper Level Design

Schedule 2017:

  • Deadline – Friday, June 2, 2017: Submission Forms, materials and uploads are due by 11:59pm, EDT
  • Friday, June 9, 2017: Faculty Sponsor Statement due by 11:59pm, EDT
  • June/July, 2017: Online Jury Review by AIA Oregon
  • August, 2017: Live Jury Review by AIA Oregon
  • September 28, 2017: Excellence in Design Awards Celebration at Greencourt Innovation Center, Rockville, Maryland

Submit to AIABaltimore FAR Scholarship Awards
Eligible students who meet the following criteria may also submit their project to the AIABaltimore Future Architects Resources (FAR) Scholarship Awards:

  1. The scholarship program is open to students entering/beginning the final year of their architectural studies program (undergraduate/graduate school/community college) in Maryland.
  2. The scholarship program is open to Community college graduates enrolled in an undergraduate architecture program.

After submitting your project to the AIA Maryland Student Design Awards in the awards portal, simply check the box “I Want to Submit This Submission to Another Category” when you are ready to SAVE & FINALIZE your submission.

All forms and file uploads will be handled through the online submission portal. You will also automatically establish an account when you create an entry application for the first time by clicking on the designated link on the chapter’s awards landing page. After creating an entry application, you may begin working on your submission forms and uploading the required files. You may save your work as you go and return to the site as often as needed, but all work must be completed and submitted by the submission deadline.
