Welcome to the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Hurricane Season!

AIA Maryland kicked off the 2019 hurricane season with a bang hosting another great Safety Assessment Program training! Our thanks to Paula Loomis, FAIA for sharing her wisdom and experience with our attendees.

The start of hurricane season is a great time to check your “go bag” to be sure it’s ready. Newly trained folks should set up a go bag. Table 8-1, pages 98 and 99 of your ATC 45 field manual has a list of items you will need. If you already have a go bag, think about refreshing some of the items in the bag. Folks with some field experience have shared a few additional items for this list and we’ll be sharing that in our June newsletter article on disaster assistance.

Your AIA Maryland Disaster Assistance Committee Chair, Bo Green, AIA, and Sandi Worthman, Executive Director, attended the Maryland Emergency Management Association Symposium in Ocean City last week. They connected with many emergency management professionals and local emergency management officials about SAP training and the volunteers AIA Maryland can provide to them.

Lastly, AIA Maryland received a couple calls today from additional folks looking for SAP training before the July 21st deadline set by the AOC. If you know individuals in need of training, please contact Sandi Worthman right away. If we have a group of at least 20 people, we will organize another training as soon as possible.
